Resume Finesse: How to Attract Cayuse Recruiters

Written by Cayuse | Mar 22, 2023 5:24:02 PM

Keeping up with ever-changing trends of resume writing can be difficult. Knowing what information to provide and how to best present it can seem like an impossible algorithm. The recruiters at Cayuse look for tailored resumes that specifically reference and are pertinent to the requirements listed in the job scope.

Don’t let your resume fall between the hundreds of candidates that Cayuse recruiters see this year. We offer these guidelines to help in getting you noticed by our team. Make your resume stand out and impress!

Create the Body of Your Resume

Keep your resume simple and concise by using these areas of content in building it:

  1. Contact Information. The first section of your resume is your contact information. Use a clear, easy to read format and font. A bolded, larger font will help your name stand out and be remembered.  Use your full name, email address, and phone number as well as city and state for your location.

*TIP: If you include your email address on your resume, remember to check your emails on a regular basis.

  2. Summary. Be sure to read the job description for the position you are applying. Review the requirements, education, and experience, and then choose keywords to use in your description. Write a one to two sentence summary that showcases your key skills and experiences. This section allows employers to quickly learn whether you have the know-how and background required for the job. The summary is a valuable section, particularly in bringing together a complexity of experiences listed in your resume.

*Tip: If you have limited experience, including a resume objective is helpful. A resume objective is a statement that indicates your career goals.

  3. Experience. List the company of employment and the date ranges to reflect your work history for each entry. On the following line, list your title or role. Next, list your duties and responsibilities in a bullet format, including brief descriptions. Avoid cramming the entirety of your experiences into the resume by leaving off old roles that aren’t as relevant to the role you are seeking. You can talk about additional experience in the interview. Use strong verbiage to brag about what you have accomplished. Quantify your experiences by using metrics or KPIs to describe the results you achieved. Be sure to list awards you received and express how valuable you are by describing the impact you made in your current and previous roles.

*Tip: Avoid using the phrases ‘Responsible for’ and ‘Experienced in’. Remember being responsible for or having experience in something are attributes that happen through growth in time and employment. They aren’t things that resonate as achievements. We want to know about what you have accomplished.

  4. Skills. The skills section is one of the most important sections of your resume. By listing your skills, hiring managers (or automated resume scanners) can assess if you have the appropriate competency for the role. Be sure to list a mix of hard and soft skills relevant to the role for which you are applying. Hard skills reflect what duties you can perform. Soft skills reflect how you will perform them. Use a graph or bullets to display your skills in a professional and skillful manner.

*Tip: Include the number of years that you have had the skill, or quantify the level of knowledge you have in the skillset.

  5. Education. List the name of the institution, followed by the degree you received and the date range in which you received it. It isn’t necessary to list your GPA.

*Tip: If you have additional education or certifications that are pertinent to the role, be sure to list these below your degree information.

Finalize Your Resume

Proofread your resume for grammar and use of keywords from the job description. Check the format, making sure the margins and text are aligned, spaced, and consistent. Review your resume to assure the same font is used throughout the document and that you have selected an easy to read font and size. Have a friend or family member proofread your resume. Convert your resume to a PDF file

Keep Impressing After Sending

There are several steps to take in following up after you send a resume.

  • Make personal connections through social media. Engage with our LinkedIn page.
  • Research the company, the industry and role. Learn about the services Cayuse Commercial Services offers.
  • Respond promptly to correspondence that you receive from the company.
  • Send a thank you note after the interview. A handwritten note with a personalized message briefly overviewing what was discussed will make a good impression.
